Primarily, we are asking that UF allocate some of its $2 billion in resources to fund a student-run homeless shelter in the city of Gainesville. This will allow students to put what they are learning into practice and allow the university to consolidate its community service efforts for homeless persons in one consolidated, organized location. It's time we recognized our responsibility in helping change Gainesville's status as the most impoverished city with a major public university in the US.
